My
Story
One of my most cherished childhood dreams was to place my piano on a high mountain ridge and plant myself there like a pine tree, dedicating my time wholeheartedly to the piano, memorizing and composing the musical repertoire I needed for my global concerts. During the 32 years I lived in Austria, my dream was only a childhood fantasy that could never be turned into reality.
But in 1980, I discovered the Sierra Tarahumara in the highlands of northern Mexico. I found a whole new world that awakened my fascination and willpower. In my first encounters, I was mainly motivated by my musicologist endeavors, documenting the music of the Tarahumara (synonymous with Rarámuri) tribe, but gradually I fell completely under the spell of the magic aura of these unique people and the many mountains and canyons that are their vast ancestral homeland.
It took Divine guidance and many unbelievable coincidences for me to find my ideal studio, almost 2,000 meters above the canyon floor, in what is called “Rosorá a jué” – the Eagle’s Nest, where I enjoy a view of seven mountain ranges stretching out into infinity while I rehearse on my Steinway concert grand piano.
